In the center of Brora we have our Far North Rail Station.
If staying in the village this allows flexibility to visit other areas, weather your fancy visiting Dunrobin Castle or the North coast town of Thurso, it would be worth looking into the rail times.
To the South
The coast line from Brora to Golspie is part of the John O’ Groats way, often seals can be spotted along this route. So if fancying doing this why not catch a train to Golspie and walk back. Taking in views of Dunrobin Castle walking in some of their lovely woodland, a little further you can slightly detour to visit Carn Laith Broch. This is a distance of 6.2 miles 10.1km.
If you fancy a trip further a field the line does head in land taking in stations at Rogart, Lairg, Inversin, Culrain, Ardgay, Tain heading down to Inverness.
To the North
The next station from Brora is Helmsdale the rail way runs along the coast which is such a relaxing way to take in the coast line. Again this area of coast is part of the John O’ Groats Trail so if you decide to walk back to Brora it is 12.8 miles, 20.8 km.
To travel further North the line heads inland from Helmsdale and starts running through the valley of Kildonan, taking in other stations of Kinbrace, Forsinard and Altnabreac. The line goes to Thurso on the North coast or to Wick on the East. This allows superb view of a very unspoiled area of the Highlands.
